TUTUNIK
Tutunik— from Nahuat Pipil, "hot"

Tutunik is a carefully crafted coffee from Nyeri, Kenya, processed at the Thuti Washing Station operated by the Othaya Farmers Cooperative Society. Through traditional washed processing and aerobic fermentation, this lot reveals refined floral profile with notes of dark chocolate, biscuit, citrus, and delicate spices.

Grown at high elevations on rich volcanic soils, this coffee reflects the dedication of smallholder producers in the Othaya district and the cooperative’s commitment to quality-focused production. Tutunik expresses the vibrant acidity, clarity, and layered complexity that make Kenyan coffees so distinctive.

The Thuti Washing station is located in the Coffee region of Nyeri, in the Othaya district. In operation since 1958, it is part, along with other stations in the area, of the Othaya Farmers Cooperative.

Producers in the region deliver their Coffee cherries here, grown on volcanic soils at more than 1,700 meters above sea level. Together, the associated Farms total approximately 193 hectares of Cultivation. The fertile soils of Othaya are ideal for the production of high quality coffees, where mainly Ruiru 11, SL 28 and SL 34 varieties are planted.

The Stations and the Cooperative are owned by the Coffee Producers, who deliver their Harvest for processing, maintaining good traceability and quality control.
